TheDistanceTravelingSect

The Distance Travelling Sect…

So the forecast wet stuff arrived.. And arrived with vigour.. Best part of a centimetre in around four to six hours, gave ample chance to ’test run’ once more the ZLBTravelinner series of Board (ZLBMarkWIA) - Sac (CanvasCarrier)-WaterproofHoldal (Wet-Sac)… very useful and without doubt the way to travel in those sorts of conditions…

Step one would include ’hanging’ CanvasCarrier from trucks, then re shuffling contents of ‘CCSac’ to suite..
Once flush with board, place both CCSac and board as described into the Wet-Sac.. Secure and walk on… We advise leaving enough of the Wet-Sac to grapple, and ‘hood’ over your head, resting the trucks on the lower neck/shoulders.. Having found a resting place .. Settle and your good to go…
Another ‘technique’ centred on holding both wheels on the truck buried in the base of the Wet-Sac..
Keeping forearms tight to your sides, and taking shelter under ’Wet-Sac covered board’ protruding over head..
This led to a slightly smoother pace.. But only advised once rain has ‘ petered-out’ a little… with the tendency to stand tall and look forward… minimal coverage remains…

In the Dry, the board being placed into the wet-sac, then slide down the ‘back’ of the Canvas Carrier is a preferred method of choice.. Once the clouds drop their contents.. Reshuffling Board-CanvasCarrier-Wet-Sac to suit is advised.. As previously described, with a keen eye, the rider can shelter from the majority of the rain under the ‘make-shift’ hood fashioned from the ‘rolled’ edge of the Wet-Sac..
Thus providing the rider with a dry store area for board/bag/self if ‘pulled-off’..

We walked around with his ‘make do’ hood.. for well over an hour at one stage… quickly likened the experience to wearing a waterproof jacket of sorts… usual rules apply, don’t put your arms up, keep neck warm and dry, front and back.. Try not to impair vision with ‘Hood piece’…

Wondered about quite at ease until reaching destination.. Board and CanvasCarrier were completely dry.. And the Neck/Back area faired well also…

Many Moons of Miles/Motion
The Shoes of one of our principal team riders…

This kid diggs the miles…
Started out as a hobby back in the 90’s.. Quickly became transportation.. Every bit the ‘addicted cruiser’… Over ten years on four wheels from tender teen age… Inspite the mishaps and strife holds true the values of Longboarding/skateboarding…

No weather too tame…
No distance too far…

Been fair to their local skate community… from encouraging the youth ‘on road’ and ‘inn park‘.. through to ’Board level’ advesary in bidding for spaces purely for the past time… Considered a ‘Young Elder’ by some, their discussion style has brought a greater understanding of Skateboarding, Specifically Longboard ’Rules of the Road’ and alike.. to the ‘Stuffy’ ‘Old Boys Network’ of on the ground government… No one skater owes anything to this person.. Just about every skater who has been ’hard done’ by a member of the public or local ’Bobbie’ for unreasonable ideals… has to tip their hat to them, for the strives made in ‘Teaching’ the general public on the Pro’s and Con’s of the much loved past time…

No Sponsor.. Nor Team till Zilvan came calling…

We hooked up on the chance fait of an old pal, and since.. The debt paid to said old pal is not so…Crossed counties in a day, and paced on until cramp took it’s toll… A test rider and keen in the design house.. There seems no limit to the tenacity expelled in the name of skate…

No Sports scientist, but keen on their fitness and mindset… they have willed others on for greater bounds both ‘in session’ and in ‘strife’.. From discussion, we here though them ‘Mad’ in distance covered … Also with Boards brung to the scene.. With a quiver in part homemade and purchased at premium.. Own ideas on the lesser known theory’s and ideals around the hobby… keen supporter of the ‘Park Etiquette’ program and alike… to which they have brought our attention..
Their ‘Motto’ of sorts is simple… -- Longboard For Freedom --

Quite the artisan of sorts with a fair knowledge of the ‘mechanics’ and science of the Board.. Enabling them to invent with intent to further their passion and others… with limited resources at times their sheer ‘idealism’ that - Longboarding is freedom has seem them travel this island on deck … With a fair bit to tackle yet… Charity and Training runs hit with similar vigour… Currently running a ZLBMark.. The recent ZLBMarkWIA - (ZLBMark with Independents / Alligator) review, were mostly by them.. Usual photographic team doing the business around them.. Resulting in a truly unbiased approach to the review.. With informative and technical discussions following the evening…

‘Their One Of The Nutters Come Good’… ZLBTeamRider…

Various ideals that have been brought to our attention by this person…
- Park Etiquette..
Basically put, when they were growing with their local skate scene in England.. There were a sort of unwritten hierarchy of the park…. Ran something like this..
-Top… Persons, as with-out persons there is no park., and this is the case for most transportation heirachary’s of sorts…
- Second… BMX, Bigger/Heaver subsequently more dangerous in the park (Even ones with brakes)..
-Third - Skateboards - Old school and New…
-Forth - Mini/Micro scooters.. Even with brakes those things are pretty dangerouse.. Lot off aluminium at a young age… Tiny wheels… ect…
- Quad skates/Rollerblades are exempt, because they have the most freedom of movement.. And usually end up worse off in collisions, thus it being their interests to move aside regardless…

Along with this ‘unwritten’ aspect.. In the early part of the century the ‘PR’ aspect of the campaign took it a step further with T-shirts/stickers sporting the finer points of the movement.. Along with slogans such as…
Move aside don’t collide.. … of which is still in use today… there are limited resellers… we have investigated further and have concluded the ideals are still out there in some form… and the apparel is available through certain retailers… Of which we are one now.. If anyone’s keen… Check a recent post describing all that’s involved…

The ‘Movement’ lost a little steam on the ground with the councils - No Helmet - No Ride Scheme… a few years back… which amongst other things scared parents and alike in to thinking that the skate park were a spot for ‘feral’ youths, with no knowledge, or respect…ect.. This has in some part tarnished the good name of skate in the park.. But has opened doors for movements such as - Park etiquette - and alike to flourish once more…

One of there finer points made is this… Every transport mode within the park that has a brake could include this FACT into there run/time in the park...

HovverKrafft in session

Well the ZLBHovverKraffft runs either direction…Although the lowest point off the ride is hardware…
The foot wide’s kingpin…. Rumbled around quite unawares of this.. Until she hooked up on what looked like a ‘ripple’ in the Tarmacaddam… Not another rider that night found out this ‘Minor Detail’… Put some miles behind us with both ‘Trucks’ as ‘Lead’.. consensus reveals it is very much riders prerogative…

Seems to involve a little persuasion with kurbs due to low riding kingpin.. Besides this.. Nice ride.. Munovering is a breeze thanks in most part to the truck set-up (Triangle theory)… a good clean ‘pace setter’.. turns head too (If your into that sort of thing)…
Manuals are the breath and depth of it’s ‘park’ abilities to date… A ‘Rolling Concept’ at best…

Seven miles are up… and it’s ‘not bad’ all in…
Personal preference regarding ‘striding foot’ has to be ‘Rear‘.. riding ‘fakeie’… solid pace setter…

Waffle To include Fresh Snaps...

ZLBHovverKraffft - Raked...

ZLBHkR... ... .. .. .

Something of an odd-ball looker… The original Hovverboard in session…
With this instance were looking into Pure carving set-ups, with triangle theory… coupled with another ‘Raked Ride’ example…

This ride sees a single footlong on nose.. A single Randal (ChineseCopy) on rear… Once this fact has ‘sunk inn’ your pace quickens with stride as the mind recalls the fact that the ’Pacing’ foot will not come into contact with the rear….

Roughly put, Very odd looker, one nice ride… All about the carve in this case… were testing out that age old triangle theory…

‘And Pure carving excellence’

Designed in principle in the early part of a previous season.. The rarely used ’triangle theory’ proved it’s self once more with this one… ‘If you need direction, use rear as reflection’.. a long winded ‘Formulae’.. But as it reads… with the ZLBHk your stance is primarily over the ’Lead’ truck, with stability taken with ’Lead’ leg… if the rider wished to ‘carve-out’ at pace, or change direction ‘sharply’, then an immediate shift in centre of gravity, followed by a ‘shuffle’ in feet, thus enabling the rider to shift weight on to the rear foot, shift weight onto rear leg, Then with subsequent change in centre of gravity, the rider will be primed to change direction with the rear truck, with very little effort, as all the before mentioned variable have been catered for… The ‘Wide Rear / Wider Nose’ set-up, lends it’s self to a ‘CenterBoard’ centre of gravity… with directional change able with various placing of the feet…

Triangle theory in short is You make two triangles (Theoretical).. Between each foot and each truck respectively..
The three points are these.. One and Two are either wheel on relative Truck… Three.. Foot (Either respectively).. Each leg is independent of each other in this instance … once placed relative to the wheels on each truck respectfully… a Theoretical triangle is made… The rider then selects the amount of weight Layed, or pressure posed through each point of either triangle at any one time.. Thus giving the rider greater poise, options once set… Thus giving the rides’ running gear a triangular geometric, and Triangle Theory applies… (Arguable conceptual in it’s inference and instance)

Another variable in this waffle of an equation is the ‘Raked-ride’ height… Were looking at a high rear.. Low nose.. ‘Sounds a little dangerous‘, were the remarks in discussion.. But having thrown a little trial and error into the mix.. It works… That said, with persistence most things do..
Although the ‘Footlong’ - a twelve inch wide truck has very little ‘angle’.. and the Randal ‘CC’ has a fair amount (50 degree).. The riser set’s on each leaves a slightly rear ‘positive’ ride height… raked toward the nose alittle…

Run a ride such as this for long enough will result in un-even ware (Tarnish) on the ‘rear’ wheels, bearings.. As is the case with ZLB… Trial and error prevails.. A little sceptical on launch as we haven’t seen old HovverKraffft in action lately…

Great first cruise.. Paced away from start quite like ’we’ had been ’in the saddle’ all afternoon.. Found the carve exceptional (As figured).. With the raked ride height showing it’s features.. Pacing rolled easy… and the miles just cruised on by…

: Noticeable points:

An increase in ‘Carve’..
- Not much in the way of Hinderence in stride..
- It’s believed that in time a Slalom worthy style could prevail… as it stands from this run not the case…
- Many an argument in its favour…
- Another Mid-Light set..
- Well balanced in-hand…
- Tanking with poise…
- - Rear wheeled degradation is of concern - - Relative..
- Believed as concept, Triangle theory in test..
(Real world study leaves an increase with carving, no adverse effects with stride relative to stance..
- The raked ride height appears not to hinder stride nor pace…with agreeable stance weighted towards the rear-foot for pace…
- Lead with the nose… Front foot/leg almost continuously weight bearing if inclined for cruise…
- Wheel choice is paramount in this instance
- Quite unique in ride style…
- Incredible responsive…
- Digg that ‘raked ride’

Hitchings and Baseplates and Clasps.. Oh My!!!

Just Shots... A snap or two... Photational-Toggraphy.. and alike...

Somethings 'A-Rumbeling' the HovverBoard... ... ... ..

ZilvanLongboards - MarkWIA Plus ZLBP- TrailorEdtion

ZilvanLongboards - MarkWIA Plus ZLBP- TrailorEdtion

Quite a handful… lot of hardware.. Did work Well..

… We persisted, once brave enough for a hill at speed… we stayed well clear of the ZLBTestHillOne.. To big.. Instead rolled on the training hill nearer the seasalts.. ‘Mellower’, ‘rugged’ ‘training hill’.. a favourite in the late summer..
Not to steep.. Enough for one push at the top.. To roll down at ever increasing velocity way off from terminal..
You ride out the pace in to an expanse of clean flat Tarmacaddam.. the odd cone/bollard to meander.. But all in, really nice hill for testing/training/chillin…

After the third attempt (Faired well.. Just lost the bagg mid-run again).. Fourth were met with pace and vigour.. Sliding the trailor were the agenda now… sort of came off.. Could of thrown it a little harder.. Still a little un-nerving as the hill ’Bottomed-out’ you found yourself on very smooth ground.. Instant gain in pace..
Although the set-up shown is a pure lightweight traveller edition (PLWTE).. We all agreed that larger wheels were essential to a smoother ride, thus enabling increased ‘comfort’ over distance, with an all important reduction in road noise.. general ‘volume’.. the revamp is sure to be alittle more robust..
Decent enough on the roads.. Handled kurbs, ‘full’ and ‘half’… really able to kick after twenty minuets or so.. Once relatively sure we were not to come’acroper, speed, distance won through…
very comfortable once more on the MarkWIA.. Real pleasure that ride.. Never really found the ZLBP-TE a hindrance… even lost a wheel in motion, and the hitch blew-up twice in the space of an hour.. But that said.. The design catered for ’Stowed’ rolling.. We moved in to this face as we lost the light…

Stowed rolling..
Pictured is afew, brief ’Set-up’ shots.. On the transition from rolling MarkWIA-ZLBPTE..
To just MarkWIA, ZLBPTE-Stowed….

Clean and Simple Stowed… Light ‘Robust’ setup… Surprisingly Comfortable to cruise.
Note the Wheel Nuts… … …

Stowed… Un-clasped…

Once on your back, or in the hand.. This under 2 kilogram trailor/bagg set just keeps rolling with you.. I were able in under 3 minuets to be rolling.. And having settled stride.. Cruising around became quite the way to travel… I’m not all that sure on this Although, The benefits of having a ’Stiff Bagg’ were apparent.. Once stowed the ZLBP-TE felt good and solid on your back.. No swaying weight some packs.. Snug fit helped the poster, thus bringing on the pace once more with even stride and clean technique...

Once in-stride felt like no other ride before… Loud, Long. Ludicrous,
We were all agreed… need sensible sized wheels.. The DeathParkers were not up to the challenge, nor all that settled in the turns...

-- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- - -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- --

Hitch and claps to ‘Light duty’ for the task at hand.. Worked well for some time. Then let slip…. various issues arose.. In ability to un-hitch at pace…

Set:
ZLBMarkWIA - -
ZLBMark With Independent 215mm/Aligators/Plankail
ZLBPTE - -
ZLBPopsickle, 125mmDestructo(Nose)/300mmFootwide(Rear)
…DeathParkers- Custom Bearings (Rear)/ Custom ‘Nose Hitch’ on ZLBP…
Custom Colour/Finnish…

The ‘Bagg Conundrum’.. just how to ‘attach’ back to trailor whilst in transit.. Still not entirely sure.. Probable best if modifications to the bagg were to take place.. Then stride out with distance in mind…
