something from the street...
what a lovely surprise, on my 23rd birthday I received a message from the guys at ZILVAN longboards these guys get old worm boards and bring them back to life. They asked me to pick anything of their site to us...e for my birthday, what a surprise. No one has ever offered to just give me something for free without hard graft and persuading.
After spending some time looking through the site. I found a beautifully restored top mount DH board with massive drop. The deck had a rad shape to it, around 42inches long and about 10inch wide at the widest part. It was a bit like a LY R5.
ZILVAN get given old, tattered and torn boards and then bring them back to life, a re sand, re grip, and a fresh new paint job.
I took old chalky out and around town for a cruise, and I new straight away, it still had its solidness and it hadn't started to flex at all, this would make a fantastic long distance pushing board having such a huge drop on the deck, having the deck solid and lower to the ground means for easier pushing, therefore there's more energy being transferred from pushing through the deck and into the wheels a do not the road making for efficient pushing.
The board is lovely for long distant pushing and for straight line riding, probably originally made as a DH board for bombing, as it was pretty stiff and not very agile on tight cornering Unless your going at speed and throwing down some slides.
I'm not 100% on what the trucks or wheels are, but the wheels are pretty soft which makes for ride comfort, not feeling any bumps or stones as it just rides straight over however the ride could be improved with some tweaking to bushings etc, maybe sticking on some abec 11 fly wheels.
Overall, this board with plenty of love and care could be an excellent LDP board for anyone not wanting to take the bus or drive etc or a fantastic board for bombing some gnarly huge hills, Depending on how you want to set it up. With its black deck and blue trim it stands out beautifully and is ready for someone to love and care for it, and to custom it them selfs to suit their personality.
